How to convert Apple Mail to PDF on Mac
You need an email from Apple Mail as a proper PDF — for an archive, an invoice trail or a legal file. Here's how to do it with the original .emlx message, entirely on your Mac.
What is an .emlx file?
.emlx is the format Apple Mail uses to store every message on disk. It wraps the standard RFC 5322 email in a byte-count header line and an Apple property list holding flags such as read status. Each message lives in its own file inside ~/Library/Mail/.
Because of that wrapper, most generic email viewers and online converters choke on .emlx files — they expect plain .eml.
How to get the file out of Apple Mail
Option A — drag and drop
Select the message in Apple Mail and drag it onto your Desktop. macOS writes out the message file instantly.
Option B — Save As
Use File → Save As and choose Raw Message Source. This produces a standards-compliant message file you can archive.
Option C — from the Mail library
In Finder press ⌘⇧G and enter
~/Library/Mail/, then browse the mailbox folders for the.emlxfile you need.
